Breaking the rules


Game Description

Are you tired of fishing with a fishing rod? Have you been frustrated sitting by the lake for an entire day without getting any payback? It is time to break the rules! Let's go fishing with items you would never imagine, and show these stupid fishies who is the real boss. 

Note: Due to the time constraints of the game jam, the game is in its demo state, and only 4 complete stages are available. Feel free to let me know what you think about the project so I can make it better! :) 


Game Controls

Mouse move - Player move/Aim

Left click - Start fishing/Shoot

Right click - Stop fishing/Exit shop


Features

- Easy to play with just your mouse

- Attempt to concentrate different game modes in one game 

- Great comfort for all fishing people who come home empty handed 

Note: Once you purchase an item from the shop, you are not allowed to switch back to the previous one, so I would highly recommend trying all of them in order

UNDYNE SPEAR !!!!! kinda hype tbh

I feel similar things as Mike here in the comments:
- The fish feel too slow, in every powerup, having them fall from the sky or move through the water faster would make getting them faster. Not just the fish but the playing moving faster to pick up the fish and go to the shop would be very nice.
- On the topic of speed, having the powerups trigger faster would also be more fun.
- I took me 10 minutes to get from the 100 fish powerup to the 200 fish powerup
- Speaking of the 200 fish powerup (suspicious arrows ?) I don't know if it did anything or was bugged, the ghost cast a line but then would not work, maybe it's not implemented as you mentioned the game isn't finished.
- The music loop feels too short and thus is repetitive

The great parts:
- Opening the shop is funny, seeing all the weird stuff and wondering what they'll do. I was curious to try every powerup, which is why I stuck to it even though it took too long.
- Little icons over the head of when things can be used / interacted is good visual feedback, the aesthetic of the game is great and pleasant to look at.

Hello staytheknight! Thank you very much for the feedback! Yes speeding up the early game should definitely be something to focus on. I have also got some complaints from my friends that the 100 power-up is not as powerful and is taking too long to level up, so some adjustments will surely be applied soon as well. 

p.s. At the 200 fish powerup, the ghost (?) should be able to collect the fishes for you automatically, but you are right that the game is not yet finished and that is likely going to be changed as well.

I LOVE the aesthetic. A very relaxing game at its core, but the extra items add so much flavour. Well done.
Because you've specifically asked for feedback, I will say that the game feels a bit like it's in slow motion at the beginning, and the pace could increase - for example, the fish falling from the sky float down after being blown up. The pace quickly picks up shortly after, so it's just the beginning.
I can't understate how hilarious this is - great job.
